While I feel like I’m making good headway on the unused nail polish pile (lot of brown, red and blue still though), the ones that have realllly been eating at me are the Muppet Collection polishes I haven’t tried yet. So here’s to the start of knocking them out with one of my favorites! OPI Animal-Istic is a growling sort of shiner — I know there’s an actual word for this, but remember those super-plastic covered seats in some amusement park rides that were loaded up with metallic glitter? Or I guess in some old diner booths too. This polish totally reminds me of that. And of course I had to put Animal on there in acrylic because, c’mon, ANIMAL. In another life I lived with a drummer that, no foolin’, genuinely channeled this fuzzy monster when he’d really get into playing, just a mess of flailing fun that was a joy to watch (the noise I could’ve done without on some days, but nobody wins when you’re squashing happytime).
Also, Animal is (relatively, especially compared to some of the other characters) easy to paint since most of his shaping relies so much on those wild hairs going every which way, which lets you go a little nuts with your fine brush and pick a handful of oranges and reds (and pink if you wanna be accurate about it) to make layers of hairs. Here’s a quick, not entirely perfect but hopefully helpful diagram for creating his face — if you start with a fat squashed number 8 shape the rest falls nicely into place:
