Having thrown my back out (this, I suppose, is the downside of aging), I’ve been spending a fair bit of time in bed with a heating pad plowing through my Netflix queue, and yesterday was digging through the back seasons of Peep Show. When I got to the University Challenge episode, I got all distracted by the Betty Blue (37°2 le matin) poster — really, how lovely is that design?!

So after a hot soak I set in to do my own little homage to the movie/poster, starting with a white base coat to ensure the yellow and lighter blue really popped. With that dry, I pulled together (from dark to light) SHANY #10 (aka black), Essie Aruba Blue, OPI Fly and ZOYA Creamy to create the gradient on my nails — really happy with how these colors played together, it’s a stunner combo. Afterwards I used a light blue acrylic paint to add in Betty’s silhouette on the ring finger.
If you’ve not seen the movie/read the book, check it out sometime (ended up re-watching it early this morning too); certainly not a feel-good happy flick, but still a touching love story twixt an incredibly unstable yet passionate woman and an infinitely patient and caring man — the picture of “love is madness”.

Wow! I love this, and you just made the colors & image POP!
Thank you dear! I really hated to take it off today, it may have been one of my most favorite gradients!
i saw this movie ages ago, great movie indeed
but your nails… are amazing, you never cease to amaze me *.*
Right?! I totally forgot about the rollercoaster that IS this movie, but glad I took the time to re-watch. And thank you!!!
This is soo neat – I love the gradient.
Me too, this may be my favorite gradient to date — those colors!
Seriously. This mani is awesome! I remember someone from my internship talking about this movie. Haven’t seen it tho.
Definitely worth checking out — some really endearing performances… it’s a classic.
Need tutorial please. This would be really amazing to do with the poster for Les Miserables. <3
Need a tutorial video please. This would be wonderful to do with the Les Miserables poster. <3 Also how do you do a gradient?
Hey Nora! Good call on the Les Mis — still haven’t seen the movie, but not hearing great things from those that have yet… the story’s got a weird place in my own history, I’ll probably save it til it’s available for home viewing.
Here’s a quick tutorial I did ages ago for the gradients: http://www.nailnerd.com/gradient-nails/
