And the hunt for the perfect black striper continues… After getting a two-coat base of Illamasqua Radium down it positively screamed “Frankenstein stitches” (you’d think it screamed actual Frankenstein, but no, that’s another idea in the works). Earlier I’d been at Walgreens and they had the Sinful Colors stripers out in Halloween colors so I picked up the black one to replace the Art Club striper I tossed the other week. I should’ve checked the bottle first.
When I pulled it out to start on the nails I realized that the applicator brush had about a dozen bristles kirked 90 degrees away from everything else, which is just generally a disaster (ya cut it and you’ve got an uneven brush where the polish globs at the point you trimmed, or you make a mess trying to avoid the strays/getting them in and out of the bottle). And then it began getting way thick; I started with the index finger and worked my way down and, despite recapping the bottle and shaking the crap out of it a few times, you can see how the line/brush slowly started getting thicker/less wieldy. Thinkin’ about ordering more Art Club stripers, that one held up for months before it started getting gross on me… What’s your favorite striper?

Cute and simple I love it !
I could so do this! It just wouldn’t turn out as cute as how you did it!
I had a similar color (Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in ‘Green With Envy’) on my feet last week, which inspired me to turn one of my big toes into a Frankenstein’s monster. It turned out super cute, too. Then I started playing with my smartphone and immediately forgot about the wet polish and smudged the bejeezus out of his little face. Boooo. : (
Anywho, can’t wait to see what you do on Halloween proper!
So gonna try this for Halloween. I love the KISS nail art striper’s. I don’t like the Art Deco one’s b/c the lines never get as thin as id like!
I swear by the Stripe Rite brand of nail art stripers. If you google them, you’ll see the the top is very grippy and it’s in sort of a triangle shape. It makes it so easy to maneuver! I also find the brush is a LOT thinner than the usual kiss/art deco brush. I can get some serious detail work done with it.
Hope that helps!
Hooray, thanks ladies! I will definitely seek both of those out (want to try everything, and a good striper is hard to find!)
Aren, the thing with the smartphone is that you’re s’posed to take pictures of cute Frankenstein toe monsters BEFORE you go smudgin’ em!
Oh ohmigosh Halloween proper, STILL have no idea what I’m doing for the whole day let alone the nails… Bless the 11th hour!
very cool! I wish I still had my black nail art polish =[ my daughter broke the bottle and so it is gone lol.
That’s so strange! I got the Sinful Colors black polish just like yours and I swear by it! My brush was perfect and I’ve had it for over a month and a half and the formula is still perfect! Maybe I got a special bottle or you just picked up a fail?
cute, hope it doesn’t hurt ;-D
I love the Kiss brand stripers, but usually I just use acrylic, it seems to rarely fail the way striping polishes do.
My striper of choice is Stripe Rite by So Easy. They are sold at Sally Beauty Supply stores. AMAZING. They are a tad more expensive than other stripers, but the brush is super skinny, and the polish is full of pigment.
OK. This confirms it. I have to go out and find a lime green creme polish. Thanks for that. LOL For the most part, I usually just use the striping polish I find at Dollar Tree, but if I need one for ultra-fine detail, I pick up Stripe Rite from Sally Beauty.
Beth, I probably got the fail — I blame the weirdo brush with the busted applicator…
And Meg, get on some Illamasqua! I’m starting to really fall in love with this brand, the colors are just gorgeous and the formula is perfectly creamy.
Thanks for the striper suggestions ladies, I’m officially on the lookout!
