Dear Kate Bush,
Thank you for this song (and so many others that have shaken me over the years) and its perfectly matched shadowpuppet video — I watched it a few times and held my old girl with all my might. You remain amazing.
Love,
the Nerd.
Seriously, you’ve got to watch this video. It’s touching and heartbreaking in one stroke… I’ve got a sweet old dog that’s been with me for over ten years now and she’s not as spritely or goofy as she used to be, but this is what I imagine her dreams are like. The background in the video looked an awful lot like butter LONDON All Hail the Queen so put two coats of that over a base of white (it’s pretty thin and a 3rd coat probably would have been a good idea if I needed it to stand alone, but the texture of the video background isn’t entirely consistent either so I rolled with the streaks and spots… plus the color’s pretty enough that it barely matters). Once that dried I used some black acrylic paint to add in some scenes from the video: the house, the homecoming (tearjerker!), the dog running around in the trees and then a shot from waiting by the clock (backwards order from the video if you’re reading nails left-right obviously).
Now go hug your dog(gies).

You never cease to Amaze me!! Keep up the good work.
Oh, that was a sweet little film – and yes, old dogs are the best, you have this non-verbal understanding just by looking at each other…
I absolutely love this mani, it’s so well made, thanks for sharing
Beautiful video and beautiful nails to match, great job girl!
Wow, wonderful nails
Wow!! This is amazing!!
And you had to make me watch that video didn’t you?!? I have a 12 y/o Lab that’s really slowed down…..and I literally cry about him all the time (people think I’m crazy, mourning my dog that isn’t even dead!!). I’ve just been preparing myself for like a year now….I work at a vet clinic, I’m just being realistic!! But I sure will miss him when he’s gone.
Thank you ladies! This video made me a blubbery mess when I first saw it… and the visual so simply sweet that it seemed like a neat thing to try to replicate.
Maria — so, so true! I’m home all day with my dogs and I swear the old dog and I do this mind-meld nonsense a dozen times through the day. She’ll just plop down anywhere in the house and stare at me, because at this point I should know exactly what she needs.
Angie — oh, me too doll… I think the prepping for it emotionally is the only way you’re able to get through it when it happens (had another dog die a couple of years ago after having her for 15 years and I swear I went out of body for awhile that day), but sometimes it does feel an awful lot like waiting for the other shoe to drop. I took my old girl to the vet at some point last year and one of the techs came up and said “wow, that’s the oldest pitbull I’ve ever seen!” and in my heart I was thinking “ssshhhhhhhh don’t let her hear, apparently what you don’t know is that through the sheer force of my love for her she will LIVE FOREVER.”
Also, I imagine working at the clinic is one of the toughest jobs sometimes: THANK YOU for what you do and taking care of the loved ones.
You are so talented! Love these (and Kate Bush
wow these are amazing!

hey i tagged you here http://lovebeangirl.blogspot.com/2012/01/11-questions-tag.html
I had to come back and say that one of the best advice I can give for us older pet owners is enjoy the time you have with them now. It’s hard for me, as I worry about him all the time, but I’m trying to make the best of the time I have left with him.
So, so true — sometimes I catch myself getting annoyed with her (like for being a belligerent little turd when I tell her to do something) but I usually remember to put it in check, and realize she’s just a tired and achy dog that wants some love in her old age. And then I hug her really hard. I think they deal with it all a lot better than we do.
