Happy are they whom the Muses love… Happy Muses weekend! The krewe is in full swing right now — had bead distribution today, there were a mess of Muses hanging at Michael’s afterwards picking up more glitter to decorate shoes (and negotiating how to split up the clearance bottles), tomorrow is the float viewing party… Mardi Gras finally feels like it’s here, and I’m PSYCHED. Plus Krewe du Vieux is rolling tonight down in the Quarter (you may remember them from this mani last year), so, you know, starting that fine dancing-on-a-wire act of balancing all the work I have to do with all that fun that’s to be had in this city. It’s a fantastic problem.
So in honor of my beloved Krewe of Muses getting real this weekend (and because doing these nails on the day of the parade wouldn’t matter much, since I’ll be wearing long gloves) I painted the Muses logo on my nails. If you’ve been down here, you’ll recognize the theme: it’s the lettered tiles from the street corners all over the city. Fun fact: there’s ONE lady that paints all of the tiles (which is why it takes forever to get them replaced), and there’s no established/purchasable font set for the tiles… trust me, my army of font nerds has looked, there just isn’t.

I started with a two coat base of OPI Unfor-Greta-Bly Blue — I think it’s beautiful, and it doesn’t stain the crap out of your fingers which is also a plus. Then I mixed up some paint to duplicate the Muses/street tiles, even with the grey cracks running around for the weathered look. Way into it, can’t wait to show them off to the ladies on my float tomorrow.
Did I mentioned I’m stoked that it’s all starting up again? :) Of course what that means for the site, if years past have taught me anything, is that I’ll be posting less frequently as things get totally bonkers in a couple of weeks, BUT I’m going to offset it by running a giveaway, so even if I’m not posting you’ll still have a chance to grab some free polish goodies… stay tuned!

You’ll also note the weird inclusion of the thumb: I cringe to add it since it’s such a jacked up little nail, and I clearly have no idea how to pose my hand with all five fingers, but it’s sort of necessary to get the full “MUSES” effect so there you have it… If you’re in town for the parade, be sure to holler at me on float #5!!!

Ah! In love with these!
YOU ARE AMAZING. This is so impressive, great job,!
Your talent is just insanely awesome! These look fabulous!
These are amazing!!
great job, as usual <3
I love those nails. Can you desithem on my nails for the brunch?!
You bet! They take FOR-EVER to paint by hand so I’ll probably have to do a nail transfer (see the sidebar for that DIY nail decal under popular posts) and then put them on you that way… Shoot me a note at nailme@nailnerd.com and we’ll work something out. I’ll have to paint the tiles before Feb 4 though b/c that’s when folks start showing up to stay here and I KNOW I won’t have time to paint/do any of this junk once the crazies land, but we can always apply later.
Spectacular! I’m on Float #5 too!
Yay float buddy! I’m in position #5 (right above the peach on the sidewalk side) — where you at?
Thanks ladies! Happy Mardi Gras!
Where can i get this done?
Hi Kim! Just shoot me a note at nailme@nailnerd.com and we can figure something out — I’ll have to get it painted before Feb 4 though, so holler soon!
Love the Muses krewe! Will be there Thursday night to watch – coming in from Atlanta (hubs rides Endymion). Have a great ride with your awesome nails!
