Tales of the Cocktail turns 10 this year! It’s been a minute since I did a New Orleans manicure (shame on me!) and I definitely need to keep practicing letters, so this was a perfect challenge. And I stress the challenge here: honestly, I think trying to replicate fonts in miniature is probably the most difficult thing I run up against in nail art; the big hope is that with a lot of practice it’ll get easier.
So what’s Tales of the Cocktail anyway? Held July 25-29 in the French Quarter, Tales of the Cocktail is the world’s premier cocktail festival, bringing together the most respected minds on mixology for five days of cocktails, cuisine and culture. The Times-Picayune has a great article with a gallery of fun photos from last year if you want to dig in more — I’m super excited to attend this year. I mean, just look at this photo:
The base on this mani was almost too pretty to cover up. I started with two coats of NYX Fierce Purple, a really lovely dusty deep lilac color, then covered that with a coat of Deborah Lippmann Ray of Light to add a bit of depth/sparkle (that isn’t really resonating in the photos because, you know, it’s dumping rain again and everything is just gloomy and dark no matter how many lights I throw on). With that all dry, I went in (for HOURS, I can’t even tell you how much I worked this one over) to add some of the characters from the Tales of the Cocktail logo on the nails, plus the logo itself on the middle finger. Did I mention that part was challenging? Practice makes perfect, kid.
