I grew up with a deep adoration for The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry — it was one of the first books I can remember that made me cry.  I’ve fallen in love with the book repeatedly in my life: while learning French and being able to read it in another language, as a lost teenager enrapt with the old movie version, as a grown-ish woman in a complicated love… it’s just a really touching story.  So I put it on my nails!

Started with a two coat base of ZOYA Arizona, a tangy sort of orange that I’m glad I picked up.  Then, you know, dinked around with a two-bristle brush and some acrylic paint to fill in the little prince, his beloved rose and the sheep from the story.  I love these, just sayin’.

“I thought that I was rich, with a flower that was unique in all the world; and all I had was a common rose. A common rose, and three volcanoes that come up to my knees–and one of them perhaps extinct forever… That doesn’t make me a very great prince…”
And he lay down in the grass and cried.

“To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world…”

Beautiful design and I loved that book, too! Your replication of the original art is perfect. Thank you for sharing this, and I can’t wait to see what else you come up with next. :)

Aw thank you Rach! I really enjoy doing these sort of manicures — I think when it’s something I love I try that much harder to do it right. :)

I am looking to buy a new camera and I was just wondering what you use and if you like it. I’ve been reading reviews online about some I was looking at but I don’t know if I can believe some of them…. I appreciate you takin the time to read this, and hopefully reply. Thanks!

No prob! I use a Nikon D300 for the shots on this site — it’s a great SLR, but may be more robust/expensive than you need. They’ve got that new line of point-and-shoot cameras out; I’m sure they stand up in quality, Nikon has great lenses. I’ve got a Sony camera too though that I love a bunch — their macro setting is great for small detail shots (like nails), so maybe check out their Cybershot line if the Nikon isn’t doing it for you. Test them out first if you can, like at Best Buy or something, so you can get a feel for the quality of the shots. Crank it up to the highest resolution and then look at the picture quality (just use the picture review function on the camera and then zoom in really tight to see if it’s pixelating).

Thank you! I was looking at a nikon but some reviews said you need to be really still in order to get a clear picture, but of course those ones are only $100. I’ve also been looking at a Sony so thank you for the help!
