I grew up with a deep adoration for The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry — it was one of the first books I can remember that made me cry. I’ve fallen in love with the book repeatedly in my life: while learning French and being able to read it in another language, as a lost teenager enrapt with the old movie version, as a grown-ish woman in a complicated love… it’s just a really touching story. So I put it on my nails!
Started with a two coat base of ZOYA Arizona, a tangy sort of orange that I’m glad I picked up. Then, you know, dinked around with a two-bristle brush and some acrylic paint to fill in the little prince, his beloved rose and the sheep from the story. I love these, just sayin’.
“I thought that I was rich, with a flower that was unique in all the world; and all I had was a common rose. A common rose, and three volcanoes that come up to my knees–and one of them perhaps extinct forever… That doesn’t make me a very great prince…”
And he lay down in the grass and cried.
“To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world…”
“If you tame me, it will be as if the sun came to shine on my life.”
