This one takes a little time with each of the layers/steps that need to dry but it’s worth the effort, because hellooooo it’s CUTE and great for summer.  I used Sinful Colors Folly (1 coat) for the base, love & beauty Pearly Pink, Essie Miss Matched for the inside rind edge, China Glaze Entourage for the rind base, Sinful Colors Innocent for the rind lines, and (finally!) Sinful Colors Black on Black for the seeds.

First the Folly base, then a layer of the Pearly Pink over it to add some shimmer to the watermelon, shown here on the index finger:

Next I used a nail brush to paint french tips for the base of the rind — a lot of people use white but every watermelon I ever cracked open has more of a pink-to-white hue, and it’s not really a solid line so much as it’s a color shift so I don’t think the line needs to be a huge contrast item.  Essie Miss Matched is pretty thin so I had to make a couple of passes; really only worried about the curves though since most of it gets covered up… and by getting a light color on it’ll take less green to cover the bright pink:

Following the same outline, I added the main green of the rind just outside of the edge:

And then used the flat tip of the brush to carefully add some lighter green stripes:

Finishing with the dotting tool using the black — just create a dot like you normally would (being a bit liberal with the amount you drop on) and then pull it down a little so you create a teardropy shape:

Took a final pic outside BEFORE putting on a top coat to cut down on some of the shine:

Where did you get the brushes you used for the details?

Hi Charlotte! I use MASH brushes for almost everything now (this post is a little old and those clear brushes really did suck after awhile) — I’ve actually got a giveaway going on the site right now for a free set of brushes and tools, you should enter!
