“Many human beings say that they enjoy the winter, but what they really enjoy is feeling proof against it.”
― Richard Adams, Watership Down
This one just felt right today. I started this mani with a two coat base of China Glaze Man Hunt — it’s about as blue as blue gets, but in a jellyish formula, so I was a little skeptical on first stroke that two coats would do it; lo and behold, it totally took (and honestly, a little wary of the removal process since I’m pretty sure this is the stuff that’ll burn the blue right into my nail bed — thank goodness for whitening toothpaste!). When that set, I added a few long grassy swoops in green paint to create a sort of moody background for the characters. Then I painted in some of my favorites: Pipkin on the pinkie, General Woundwort on the ring, Hazel on the middle, and Hyzenthlay on the index finger.

If you haven’t read the book — DO, I can’t recommend it enough (was definitely a favorite from my childhood). If reading is too much work, you can always watch the entire movie embedded here:
And if you REALLY love Watership Down, check out this amazing print, “i remember you. you’re the one who saw it coming“, from Daniel Danger; his store appears to be down at the moment, but if you poke around the internet you may be able to find some of the limited edition prints available for sale (I have one of them and it’s GORGEOUS, the colors absolutely stand up in real life).
And… AND!… here are 10 Facts You Might Not Know About Watership Down from Neatorama. Neat!

Wow
you never fail to amaze me, this is too awesome
I was thinking that was a book when I read your title. Read this many moons ago! Nails are awesome!
Amazing! I love the red one
I don’t think I’ve read the book. I should get on that. My parents have the movie on VHS so I’ve seen that one at least :> Oh, and nice nails and all that!
There’s that kick ass nail art again! That is Fabulous!I think the red and pink ones are my faves…such expressive faces!
Thank you ladies! I remember BAWLING the first time I saw the movie — it really shouldn’t have been billed for kids I don’t think, just because it was animated… but such a beautiful story, and lots of great lessons threaded throughout.
So much love for this one! Unfortunately, I never read the book (odd, considering I’m usually one of those pretentious “the book was better” types, haha), but Watership Down is one of my favorite movies ever.
