S&A requested some owl nails awhile ago (since unintentionally taking the week off last, I’m feeling horribly backlogged so you’ll be seeing acrylic stuff for a little bit here — more standard/easy manis soon, promise) and hooray, I finally got to it last night! I wanted to do cartoon owls on all of ‘em, but ran out of gas after the 3rd one so excused myself with “well leave the pinky alone and then people can see the polish by itself”. As Jeff Goldblum’s character in the Big Chill aptly pointed out, “I don’t know anyone who could get through the day without two or three juicy rationalizations. They’re more important than sex.”
And really, kind of an unexpectedly nice color — I had bought the whole fleet of SHANY nail polishes earlier this year for a song (truly, probably the cheapest polishes I own, even next to Sinful Colors) so had set my expectations pretty low… this leapfrogged over ‘em. SHANY #23 (you know it’s budget when it doesn’t even get a name) is a bright orange number that covered perfectly in two coats. The application was even, but the finish is a little… chalky I guess is the word? It’s not matte, but it’s not gloss or high shine either, so it definitely needs a topcoat, but I think it looks great with a swipe of SV over it. I used a couple of different lights (florescent, lightbox spotlight and incandescent) so between the three you could get an accurate idea of the color — I much prefer daytime/outdoor shots, but there was already another mani due by the morning so the artificial lighting had to do.
Plus a few cute little owls in acrylic. Thanks for the fun idea S&A!
Also, if the title made you think of “that’s like an alarm clock!”/this video, s’up Oakland, miss you!
